Hair and choice
Posted by: joseantoniook in Class topics, tags: choice, culture, hair, hairstyle, personality
This is a show that features some different hair styles. After listening to it, please answer these questions: Do people choose the way they look like? If they do, that is fine. If they don’t, who or what chooses for them? And if other people, other forces make this choice, who benefits/gains/makes money from it? And if other people make this choice, what are the consequences of that?

Well, I think that if you really want to look like “that” way, you can, because today, we have a lot of tecnology that can help us to do everything taht we want to, and that’s way that today we say that nothing is impossible, just dead. There is so many ways to you look like the way you want to, for a example, you can use shampoos, creams, make up, couffeirs… You now, there’s so many ways to do what you want to. But there’s some people that, can not choose, they let others people choose form them, and who choose it, it’s the media, the television, the magazines. It’s not rigth to let others people choose what you want to be, because you are going to “have” tha consequences about that. Well, if other people make this choice, who benefits whith that, certainly it’s not you, can be the saloons, the media, but not you. You’re not going to get money on that, but maybe, you can get something more important than that, hapinnes, and if you are happy, don’t matter what you did, who you were, you are happy NOW, and that’s what matter. Because if you are fine, everything is goingo to be “better” to look, to do…

Some people choose the way they look like, But other people are convinced by the television, magazines, newspaper and copy the hair style of actress and actors . The media has a strong power of convincing people and the fashion world get a lot of money with the new looks.

Yes, they do.
There is a lot of influence, but anyone decide how they want to look like or who they want to copy. Everybody based in something. Can be actor/actress, type of music, singers and bands, soap operas.

Well, I think not everybody chooses the way that they look like. The major part of people use what the capital and the media push over them. It´s too bad, because they loose their identidy and almost everybody is not happy with the way they look like. But they keep the appearences.

I think that the person doesn’t choose what will use. It depends on the occasion, on the ambient (if formal or informal). The tv, magazines, newspaper, the famous, many times, determine and convince the people what they will use and how they should look like. It is not nice because the people lose your identificacion.

People choose their own styles, because they can choose. People are free to choose. I guess the media can influence the people, but they always choose the styles that they more like. People can even choose the styles that the media wants, but even this people are chooseing.

We think the major part of people follow a fashion. But, some people have their own style. It’s difficult for this people found clothers for people who have style. If the people don’t choose your style, another people choose the way that you should follow, for example…Your hair, your shoes, your make up.If you going to the shopping mall and other people choose things for you,you feel not happy and the people get money.
You need to use things that you like and forget another comments.

When we born we didn’t choose the way we want to look like. However, with all the tecnology, we can change our appearence. Today we can change the hair’s color, the skin’s color, the body, and other things that doesn’t umpleasent us.

Hi everyone, here I am, visiting this creative activity about hair styles and tendencies and whether we are the ones who decide how we look or not and who profits from it. I had never asked myself these questions before, so I found the activity quite interesting.
I guess it all depends on the kind of hair one has and the sort of treatments needed in case one wants to change it drastically (a straight hair gone curly with a perm, a curly hair gone straight with straightening products or a change of color or mini braids or even dreadlocks). These procedures are probably expensive, some last more than others.
In my point of view, depending on their age, some people would tend to get a hair style that is in, fashionable at a certain moment, like Jennifer Aniston´s different styles during the Friends series. I remember everyone wanted to look like Diana of Wales some years ago, when she was at the peak of her popularity.
My hair is very straight and I had the same style for many, many years. I had a different haircut around two years ago, a shorter one, and everyone says I look younger. That´s great to hear.
All the best and keep up the great job you have started here,

Hi everyone,
I’m a friend of your English teacher Jose Antonio and I’m an English teacher too.First of all, I want to say this blog is fantastic. You’re really doing a great job guys.As for hairstyles ,I think it depends on the type of your hair.If you have curly hair for example, it’s not very practical to have a hairstyle that requires you to srtaighthen. Therefore, when changing you hairstyle you should keep your hair type in mind.I have wavy hair and I like short hair but it’s not very useful for me to have short hair.I used to have longer hair but I can’t handle it as it gets crazy easily so I had it cut a month ago.Now I can handle and dry it very easily and I feel happier as I have a different style now:)
Best wishes from Turkey
